Ho Chi Minh City, 1st July 2011 – Vietnam’s first vertical run has been selected as a trial race for the 2011 Vertical World Circuit (VWC), the world’s first and only skyscraper racing circuit, uniting some of the world’s most iconic skyscraper races, including the Empire State Building Run-Up and the Taipei 101 Run-Up in Taipei, Taiwan. As a trial race, runners who participate in the VWC will be assigned points based on their result, with the male and female competitors with the total highest scores at the end of the year being declared VWC Champions.

“Vertical Running is a bit like the challenge of Mount Everest; why do people climb it? Because it's there. Because it's a challenge! These buildings are beacons. They are symbols of the growth of the cities and societies they exist in. In terms of economic growth, Ho Chi Minh is one of the fastest growing cities in the world and Bitexco Financial Tower is emblematic of Vietnam's emergence," says David Shin of event organisers Sporting Republic.

Runners will be flagged off in waves of between 10 to 15 people, commencing in the morning and expected to finish by early afternoon with men, women and children 12 and above of all fitness levels encouraged to enter in what expects to be a fun and energetic event.

Aiming to attract hundreds of local and foreign participants, online registrations will commence on July 1st with participation fees starting at US$12 per person.
